About Us

Billingshurst Dramatic Society (BDS) was formed in 1941 amid the chaos of World War II. Despite forming in difficult times, BDS somehow managed to put on a production of The Rivals the following year, and a further seven productions up until the end of the war!

We put on two main productions a year, in the Spring and Autumn, in The Women's Hall.

We may also perform in conjunction with local businesses and groups, such as our popular murder mystery evenings at The King's Head Inn.

Rehearsals are held twice a week on Mondays and either Wednesdays or Thursdays in The Women's Hall in Billingshurst High Street from 8.00pm - 10.00pm (ish) where we also stage most of our shows.

Our current (2023) annual membership subscription is £30.

We also hold informal, social play readings at The King's Head/The Six Bells, so keep an eye on the website, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for details. If you receive our free e-newsletter, details will also be found on there.

We are a great team and it's 'all hands to the pump' before and after a show. Members, including the cast and production team, are expected to help with the set-build on the one/two weekends prior to a show and the set-strike on the Sunday immediately following. You will be amazed at what is achieved!

Our Annual General Meeting is usually held in September.

We could be called the Billingshurst Democratic Dramatic Society! We have no divas or superstars. In one show you could be the lead actor, in the next the director, or in charge of props or painting scenery; we believe every role is important and equal in achieving dramatic excellence.
